8 Steps To A Stylish Interior

1. Add glamour in an unexpected space such as a hallway with a seriously impressive piece of furniture, like a display cabinet. It instantly makes a statement and is perfect for storing general household items as well as showing off your favourite possessions.

2. Add interest underfoot with paint – it’s an inexpensive and stylish floor covering and all it takes is time and the know-how to get it right. First sand your boards and if necessary seal any knots before applying your choice of paint.

3. Make space for a breakfast bar in your kitchen. Forget a table, a long chunky shelf fixed to one wall will do the trick – just add stools which can be tucked in underneath when not in use.

4. Honour your history with a modern display of family photographs. Pick out your favourite pics and hang them on wooden clothes pegs from lengths of string along a wall.

5. Create a modern library in your living room. Take your books out of storage and dedicate an entire wall to your best loved novels. Just hang lengths of shelving from one end of the wall to the other in rows. Don’t fix the shelves too close together so you can really show off your collection. To keep the look modern opt for chunky shelving which you can pick up from your local hardware store.

6. If you’ve got the space why not make your kitchen work harder as a dining area with the addition of a simple table and chairs. An extendable table is perfect for accomodating large numbers of guests.

7. Sometimes paint alone just isn’t enough to give your walls personality. Follow the trend for bird imagery and give your walls an elegant flourish with a print of birds in an ornate gilt frame. Scour junk shops for oriental style prints or create your own artwork from wallpaper or wrapping paper.

8. Make your bed the focal pint in your bedroom by highlighting it with a striking but simple headboard made from pretty fabric. Just cut a panel of fabric (the width of the bed) and hang on the wall behind the bed using bulldog clips and curtain rings.
