Bidet
If you’ve the room install this beside your loo and park your derriere.

Cistern Pull
You can get some very cool china pulls on a bobbly ball link, often decorated with the names of the manufacturer or supplier.

Close Coupled Loo
A great space saver - a loo with the cistern attached.

Corner Bath
Fits into a corner, but can actually take up a lot of space.

Double Ended Bath
The name is self explanatory. This bath is rounded for comfort at both ends with taps and plug in the centre.

Electric Showers
Contains an element that instantly heats the water as it passes through the unit. The water is fed from the tank or from the cold water mains supply.

High Level Cistern
A real old-fashioned loo with cistern fitted high on the wall. If you’re buying a salvaged cistern or a reproduction one, make sure that your room is tall enough to accommodate it. It has to be a certain distance from the pan for adequate water pressure. You also need to ensure the wall will carry the weight of water in the cistern.

Hydrotherapy Baths
Baths with whirlpool effect for comforting massage. Pricey but a nice luxury.

Mixer Showers
Mixer showers are ideal in homes with a readily available hot water supply and provide a higher flow rate than non-pumped electric showers.

Monobloc Mixer
Requires only a single hole and has either two controls or a central lever and mixes the water in the spout.

Pedestal Basin
A traditional bathroom hand basin designed to hide the plumbing behind the vertical pedestal.

Power Showers
Similar to a mixer shower but incorporates a booster pump in one compact and simple to install unit to boost the flow rate. The booster pump automatically turns on and off every time you operate the shower

Slipper Bath
The shorter version of the freestanding roll top. Offers more depth than standard at one end, is surprisingly comfortably and looks really good.

Three Hole Basin Mixer
Consists of two separate valves which mix the water before it issues from a central spout.

U

Underslung Basin
Where the basin in fully recessed into the worktop. Look for one with the overflow towards the front, as it will be much more attractive.

W

Wall Mounted
Also known as wall hung, these bathroom fittings are the look of the moment and brilliant in small spaces.

Washstand Basin
In this basin the plumbing is concealed with a handy built-in storage unit.

Wet Room
Here the room is fully tiled and the walk-in shower is an integral part of the room with the drain incorporated into the floor.
